English author and theater director David Benedictus, who lived from 16 September 1938 to 23 October 2023, is primarily remembered for his books. Back to the Hundred Acre Wood (2009), a Winnie-the-Pooh book, was one of his works. It was a novel of this kind, the first in 81 years.

With Judi Dench playing Kanga and Geoffrey Palmer playing Eeyore, Benedictus previously authored and produced audio renditions of the Pooh stories. The A. A. Milne estate trustees took more than eight years to accept the project after he handed them two samples of his sequel.

Benedictus has a “wonderful feel” for the Pooh universe, according to Michael Brown, chairman of the Pooh Properties Trust. The book, according to Publishers Weekly, is “largely forgettable” and lacks “the charm of the first book,” so they weren’t too hot on it.
