A prominent character in Quebec’s sports media landscape, Yvon Pedneault, died at the age of 77 following a month-long struggle with cancer.

Yvon Pedneault’s career in sports writing saw a number of turning points. He began writing about bowling for a local Chicoutimi newspaper in 1965 and quickly rose the ranks, eventually taking the position of sports editor for Progrès-Dimanche.

The articles Pedneault published in La Presse and Le Journal de Montréal demonstrated his flexibility. Being the only person to work full-time for all three of Montreal’s French-language newspapers and all of the regional French-language television stations that carried Canadiens games, he made history.

Notably, he was on the Hockey Hall of Fame selection committee and received the Elmer Ferguson Memorial Award.

Two children, a son and a daughter, were born to Pedneault. His son, CTV News journalist Marc Pedneault, is a writer.
Marie-Eve Pedneault, his daughter, is a lawyer.

He will be remembered for his commitment to his profession, his fair and impartial reporting, and his adept interviewing.
