Yorgos Lanthimos is a Greek film director, film producer, screenwriter, photographer and theatre director.

He was raised mainly by his mother. However, the name of his mother is not public knowledge.
Antonis Lanthimos, his father, was a professional basketball player who played for Pagrati BC and the Greece men’s national team, as well as a basketball instructor at the Moraitis School.
Yorgos Lanthimos gained international recognition for his unique cinematic style and his ability to create thought-provoking and often darkly comedic films.

One of Lanthimos’s breakout films is “Dogtooth” (2009), which won the Un Certain Regard prize at the Cannes Film Festival.
Lanthimos gained even more international attention with “The Lobster” (2015), His subsequent film, “The Favourite” (2018), marked a significant step in Lanthimos’s career.
He has received four Academy Award nominations for his work: Best International Feature Film for Dogtooth (2009), Best Original Screenplay for The Lobster (2015) and Best Director and Best Picture for The Favourite (2018).
