Yellowstone National Park Bison Attack: Was a woman killed by a bison in Yellowstone?

According to park officials, an Ohio woman was impaled by a bison after approaching it while visiting Yellowstone National Park in Wyoming on Tuesday, May 29.

The 25-year-old was driving from Grove City, Ohio, about 20 minutes outside of Columbus, to visit the national park. According to park officials, the woman, whose name has not been disclosed, got within 10 feet of the female bison while walking on a nearby boardwalk. The beast then impaled her and threw her 10 feet in the air.

She was treated on-site by park emergency care personnel before being transported by ambulance to the Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center with a puncture wound and other injuries. She is currently receiving medical care.

According to park officials, bison, which may weigh up to 2,000 pounds, have wounded more people than any other animal in Yellowstone. Visitors are advised to keep at least 25 yards away from all large mammals, such as sheep, deer, and moose, and 100 yards away from bears and wolves.
