Born in Trois-Rivières, Pierre Tourville embarked on his musical journey by studying the viola in his hometown and later at the Conservatoire de musique de Montréal. Under the guidance of Robert Verebes, he secured first prizes for viola and chamber music, marking the beginning of a fruitful career.

Continuing his pursuit of excellence, Pierre Tourville received a Fonds FCAR scholarship in 1997-1998 and furthered his studies at Boston’s New England Conservatory with Marcus Thompson.

Pierre’s journey in the world of classical music encompasses roles as principal viola with the Orchestre Réseau des Conservatoires, the Orchestre Mondial des Jeunesses Musicales, and at the Verbier Festival in Switzerland
. Since 2002, he has held a full-time position with the Orchestre Métropolitain, currently serving as assistant principal viola. Pierre Tourville’s musical contributions extend beyond orchestral performances, as he has been a part of Ensemble Allegra, Ensemble Contemporain de Montréal, and the Appassionata chamber orchestra.
Pierre’s commitment to music education and choral preparation is evident in his role as one of the two chorus masters of the Chœur Métropolitain since 2000. His multifaceted involvement in the world of classical music adds depth to the artistic partnership he shares with Yannick Nézet-Séguin.
