Wyclef Jean is a Haitian rapper, singer, songwriter, producer, and actor. He is the son of Yolanda Jean and Gesner Jean.

He was born in Haiti and emigrated to Brooklyn, New York City, with his family when he was nine years old, and eventually lived in East Orange and Newark, New Jersey.
Jean began making music as a child, and when he was a teen, his mother recognised his musical potential and bought him a guitar. In 2001, Wyclef’s father was tragically killed when he was crushed against his garage door by Jean’s Bentley.
Jean gained international fame as a member of the hip-hop group The Fugees, along with Lauryn Hill and Pras Michel.

As part of The Fugees, Wyclef Jean contributed to the group’s success with their critically acclaimed album “The Score” in 1996, which featured hit singles like “Killing Me Softly” and “Ready or Not.” Following the group’s disbandment, Jean pursued a solo career, releasing several solo albums that showcased his diverse musical influences, blending hip-hop, reggae, R&B, and other genres.
He has been actively involved in humanitarian work, particularly in his home country of Haiti, providing support and assistance in the aftermath of natural disasters and working on educational and social initiatives.
