He migrated to Brooklyn, New York City, with his family when he was nine years old, and eventually lived in East Orange and Newark, New Jersey.
Jean gained international fame as a member of the hip-hop group The Fugees, along with Lauryn Hill and Pras Michel.
As part of The Fugees, Wyclef Jean contributed to the group’s success with their critically acclaimed album “The Score” in 1996, which featured hit singles like “Killing Me Softly” and “Ready or Not.”
