WWJ anchor Jim Matthews found murdered in Chesterfield

Jim Matthews, 57, a news anchor at WWJ-950 AM, was identified as the murder victim in a tragic crime scene in Chesterfield Township.

The station announced late Friday, September 23 afternoon that he was the man discovered dead at the Chesterfield home where a woman had been stabbed and a 10-year-old boy had been tied up and shoved into a closet.

According to police, they were called to a domestic situation near Hooker and Jefferson, where one man was killed, a suspect was killed, and three other victims, including two children, were all taken to the hospital.

According to Brian Bassett, Public Safety Director, the woman and the girl were able to flee the house and flag down a passing driver, who then dialed 911.

Police discovered Matthews dead inside the house and the boy bound in a closet. Bassett did not say what caused the wounds, but he did say that a gun was not involved.

According to the police, the suspect was found in the basement with self-inflicted wounds and a drug overdose. He was in good condition and was facing charges.

The cause of the attacks was unknown, and the investigation was ongoing.
