Why was Rashida Tlaib’s ‘Nakba Day’ event in US Capitol canceled?

US Speaker of the House Kevin McCarthy canceled a planned ceremony in Congress commemorating the “catastrophe” of Israel’s establishment with Rep. Rashida Tlaib (D-MI), which was scheduled to be held on Wednesday, May 10, 2023.

The Jerusalem Post initially reported on the event, which was arranged in collaboration with organizations that celebrate terrorism against Israel and transmit antisemitic messages.

Instead, a nonpartisan conversation was conducted to commemorate the 75th anniversary of the US-Israel partnership.

McCarthy tweeted on Tuesday, May 9;

“The event in the US Capitol is canceled. “Instead, I will host a bipartisan discussion to honor the 75th anniversary of the US-Israel relationship.”
