Marie Antoinette, officially called Antonia Josepha Johanna, was the last queen of France before the French Revolution. Marie Antoinette was born on November 2, 1755, and died on October 16, 1793, at the age of 37 years.

Marie Antoinette was the daughter of Emperor Francis I and Empress Maria Theresa and she married Louis-Auguste. Marie Antoinette became the queen of France after her husband, Louis-Auguste, was made king Louis XVI of France.

Why was Marie Antoinette put to death?

Marie Antoinette was put to death through execution by guillotine after she was found guilty of several crimes against the France state. Additionally,  it is known that she was accused of treason.

A number of accusations were levelled against Marie Antoinette and some include incest, sexual abuse, treason, among others. Marie Antoinette’s son was forced to accuse her of incest and sexual abuse before a Revolutionary tribunal. Other accusations made to Marie Antoinette include sending millions of money to Austria and planning the killing of the National Guards.
