Why was Kobe famous?

The all-time leading scorer in Lakers history, Bryant was the first guard in NBA history to play 20 seasons. His 18 All-Star designations are the third most all time, and he has the second most consecutive appearances as a starter.

Kobe rose to fame in 1996 when he became the first guard in league history to be drafted out of high school. Along with teammate Shaquille O’Neal, Kobe and the Lakers won three consecutive NBA championships from 2000 to 2002.

Bryant was one of nine killed in a helicopter crash in Calabasas, California, on Sunday at 41 years old. He leaves behind a legacy as an all-time great NBA player, one of the biggest sports icons of the 20th century, and an image almost shrouded in mythology.
