Born on October 5, 1992, in Washington, Indiana, Zeller played high school basketball in Washington, where he averaged 2.5 points and 1.4 rebounds per game.

He also played college basketball for the Indiana Hoosiers of Indiana University, and led the team with 15.6 points and 6.6 rebounds per game as a freshman.
In 2013, Zeller was drafted by the then-Charlotte Bobcats as fourth overall in the NBA draft.
In 2021, Zeller began playing with the Portland Trail Blazers, and in 2022, he was signed with the Utah Jazz.
Zeller further signed a contract with the Miami Heat on February 20, 2023.
