Spanish ladies coach Jorge Vilda is regarded as controversial because of the player mutiny following accusations that he did not create a conducive environment for his team.

The federation however continues to support Vilda despite the complaints. Vilda led the Spain Women’s team to victory during the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup.
Why did Spanish players boycott?
In 2022, there was a controversy between Vilda and some Spanish players due to the “disappointing result in the UEFA Women’s Euro 2022, Vilda’s reported coaching style and his treatment of players.”
This led to some players leaving the national team, but since the Federation stood by Vilda, he did not resign.
Eventually, only three players returned to the team and participated in the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup, where Spain became “world champions of the finals.”
