The studio is known for its high-quality animations and compelling storytelling and has produced many critically acclaimed and commercially successful films, such as My Neighbor Totoro, Spirited Away, and The Wind Rises.

Studio Ghibli has won numerous awards, including an Academy Award for Best Animated Feature for Spirited Away.

The studio’s films often explore themes of environmentalism, family, and the importance of human connections.

Production was briefly put on hold after director Hayao Miyazaki retired. But, sweetheart, it’s back! The studio’s debut 3D film, Earwig and the Witch was released last year, and How Do You Live? is scheduled to arrive in theaters in 2023.

Why is Studio Ghibli closing?

Isao Takahata, one of Ghibli’s key producers and directors, sadly passed away a few years ago. The studio would never again be the same.

Since the studio’s start, a few notable animators had also died.

There were speculations that the studio was closing down, but it hasn’t. Miyazaki has come and gone from retirement so frequently that there are always whispers that it would close.

They may have indicated they may shut down once, but it never actually happened. The studio’s following movie will be released in 2023.
