Many people were concerned over the bill, as some have called it sexist. Several transwomen in Scotland are afraid of the bill being passed as only men’s voices are being heard through it.

What Did Shona Robison Say?
Shona Robison addressed MSPs at the Scottish Parliament Building about the Scottish Government’s Gender Recognition Reform Bill. She asked to end the unpleasant, angry, and abusive debate surrounding Gender Recognition reform.

She revealed to the MSPs that the number of individuals applying to the gender recognition process might increase from 30 to 300 if the bill is passed as efficient reform is now set in motion to Parliament, reports The National.

Robison has asked for a respectful debate on transgender rights and healthcare policy. She added that the Government’s plans are not bringing up new rights, removing existing rights, and they are not impacting any single-s*x services.

Trans men and women are some of the most stigmatized people in Scotland. Shona added that she is concerned about the impact of all the heat relating to the policy, as it might stigmatize and marginalize trans people in the country.

Robison is a Scottish National Party politician who has been a Member of the Scottish Parliament (MSP) for Dundee City East since 2003. She is the current Cabinet Secretary for Social Justice, Housing, and Local Government.

Shona was the Cabinet Secretary for Health and Sport from November 2014 to June 2018. From 1999 to 2003, she was an additional member of the North East Scotland region.
