Scrooge’s former business partner, Jacob Marley, has been condemned to wander the earth in chains as punishment for his own miserly ways.

Marley warns Scrooge that he is headed down the same path and that he too will be doomed to a life of torment unless he changes his ways.

Through these encounters, Scrooge is able to see the error of his ways and ultimately becomes a kinder and more generous person.

The name Ebenezer serves as a symbol of Scrooge’s transformation and redemption. It is a reminder of the help and guidance that he received from the ghosts and the power of Christmas to bring about change in people’s lives.
