Why is Freddy Krueger a monster?

Freddy Krueger is considered a monster and a demonic boogeyman as he is a sadistic being who enjoys preying on teenagers.

Wizard magazine rated Freddy Krueger the 14th-greatest villain of all time while the British television channel Sky2 listed him 8th.

The American Film Institute ranked Freddy Krueger 40th on its “AFI’s 100 Years…100 Heroes & Villains” list. In 2010, Freddy Krueger was nominated for the award for Best Villain at the Scream Awards.

In its storyline, Freddy Krueger murders his victims in their dreams causing their deaths in the real world as well. However, Freddy is pulled back into the real world with normal human vulnerabilities and can be destroyed.

Freddy Krueger’s character has gone on to become a pop culture icon and has made its mark in toy lines, comic books, books, sneakers, costumes and video games. It is even a common cosplay idea during the Halloween season.
