Eddie Olczyk announced in June 2022 that he is leaving the Chicago Blackhawks after 15 seasons as their TV color analyst.

The former Blackhawks forward stated in a statement that he was unable to reach a new contract with Chicago ownership, which resulted in his departure.

Eddie Olczyk told NHL.com:

“This was my decision to step away,”

“We just couldn’t come to terms on a contract. I had a great conversation with (owner) Rocky Wirtz, great conversation with Danny (Wirtz, chief executive officer) and Jaime [Faulkner, president of business operations). It was hard. I’m just very thankful for the last 15 years. This is my home, it’ll always be my home, but I just felt I had to take a step back and reassess and have some other opportunities that I’m looking at.”

Olczyk joined the Seattle Kraken after being released by the Blackhawks.

The Blackhawks have parted ways with general manager Stan Bowman, coach Jeremy Colliton, longtime play-by-play voice Pat Foley, star winger Alex DeBrincat, up-and-coming players Brandon Hagel and Kirby Dach, and a slew of front-office personnel in the last year.

Interestingly, the futures of franchise pillars Patrick Kane and Jonathan Toews remain uncertain at best.
