Why does Kanye have beef with Deadmau5? Why did Deadmau5 get cancelled?

Kanye West and Deadmau5 had a beef on Twitter back in 2016. The beef began when Kanye posted a photo to Twitter that appeared to show the rapper with the file-sharing site Pirate Bay open on his browser.

The file was open alongside a tab featuring Serum, an editing software published by Deadmau5 and his music label, Xfer Records. Deadmau5 called him out for software piracy after which Kanye fired back at him on Twitter.

Deadmau5 was suspended from Twitch for homophobic slurs in 2019. He deleted his Twitch live-streaming account after being suspended for homophobic slurs. In a now-deleted Reddit post, Zimmerman said his comments had been “generally toxic as fuck,” but that they were not intended as hate speech.

Deadmau5 has received six Grammy Award nominations for his work. In 2007, Deadmau5 founded his own record label, Mau5trap. Deadmau5 was part of the lineup for the 22nd Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival in April 2023.
