Why does Al Gore say cereal in South Park?

In the episode “Time to Get Cereal” of the American animated television series South Park, Al Gore is enlisted by the main characters in a crisis that is causing the deaths of numerous citizens of South Park.

During the episode, Gore repeatedly says that no one believes him even though he’s being “super cereal” (serious). The phrase “super cereal” is a joke alluding to an apparent cereal/serial pun Gore once made.

Al Gore is an American politician, businessman, and environmentalist who served as the 45th vice president of the United States from 1993 to 2001 under President Bill Clinton.

Al Gore served as a member of the U.S. House of Representatives from 1977 to 1985. Gore is also a partner in the venture capital firm Kleiner Perkins. In 2007, Al Gore was named a runner-up for Time’s 2007 Person of the Year.

Al Gore has served as a visiting professor at Middle Tennessee State University, Columbia University Graduate School of Journalism, Fisk University, and the University of California, Los Angeles.
