Why do British say Happy Christmas?
There are a number of wishes which people wish their friends and loved ones during the festive periods of Christmas. The most common wish statements are “Happy Christmas” and “Merry Christmas.”

The British are comfortable in using the wish “Happy Christmas” rather than “Merry Christmas.” This is because the British believe that happy denotes a high-class statement whiles Merry denotes quite a low-class statement.
As a result of this, the Royal Family of Great Britain adopted “Happy Christmas” rather than the usual “Merry Christmas.”
