Her parents, Kate and Gerry McCann had taken her along on a holiday, together with her two-year-old twin siblings; some family friends and their kids.
The McCanns had left their children asleep in the ground-floor apartment, while they had dinner in a restaurant 55 metres (180 ft) away.
Later on, Madeleine’s mother found out she was missing, her whereabouts remained unknown and she was declared dead.
Following a British DNA test, the Portuguese police gave a controversial report that Madeleine had died in a domestic accident in the apartment but her parents had concealed the incident.
However, there were no evidences to back up the claim.
