The Lions fired Schwartz on Monday, on December 30, 2013, a day after finishing the season with a 7-9 record, a disappointing finish given the team’s 6-2 start.

After a loss to the struggling New York Giants a week ago, Detroit was eliminated from the playoffs after losing six of its final seven games.

Jim Schwartz went 29-52 in his five years as Lions coach after inheriting a team that had gone 0-16 the previous season. He led the Lions to their first playoff appearance since 1999 in 2011.

Jim Schwartz began his NFL career as a scout with the Cleveland Browns in the 1990s. Schwartz previously worked as a coordinator for the Titans, Bills, and Eagles. In 2017, he led the Philadelphia Eagles defence to a Super Bowl victory.
