Why did Sarah Hyland have a kidney transplant?

Popular actress, Sarah Hyland of Modern Family, went through some health complications relating to her kidney. In 2012, she was diagnosed with kidney dysplasia which made her undergo her first ever kidney transplant that same year. Five years later, in 2017, her body rejected the kidney, resulting in another complication that made her undergo another surgery transplant.

Who donated their kidneys to Sarah Hyland?

Sarah Hyland’s first kidney transplant was donated by her father, Edward James Hyland. After her body rejected the kidney in 2017, she needed another transplant, so her brother Ian Hyland donated his to keep her alive and well.

She shared on several platforms that she battle mental and physical trauma while going through such phases in life.

“You have to be a certain level of sick in order to receive a transplant. I was reaching that certain level of sick. I was not able to be awake for eight hours at a time. I was so exhausted all the time,” she said.
