Why did Rupert Everett and Madonna fall out?

Former friends Rupert Everett and Madonna fell out in 2006, after Everett made public a secret between Madonna and Sean Penn, in his memoir Red Carpets and Other Banana Skins.

The “Queen of Pop” didn’t like the book and felt “it was an infringement of privacy.”

Also, in the memoir, Rupert had referred to Madonna as “an old whiny barmaid”, but according to Everett, the term “old whiny barmaid” was meant to be a compliment.

“…the thing about Madonna when she was very young was she can’t talk like that half the time, you know, and she really got guys like that. And she was really charming. That wasn’t meant to be rude actually”, Everett had explained during an interview.

Who Is Rupert Everett?

Rupert Everett is an actor, writer, and singer, known for appearing in the 1984 film adaptation of “Another Country.”

Born on May 29, 1959, in Norfolk, England, Everett began his acting career in the theater, over four decades ago, acting in plays such as “Dance with a Stranger”, and other productions like “Pygmalion,” “The Judas Kiss,” and “Blithe Spirit.”

Everett had his breakthrough in 1984 in film came with his role in the film adaptation of “Another Country”, and went on to appear in several movies, including “My Best Friend’s Wedding” (1997), “An Ideal Husband” (1999), “The Importance of Being Earnest” (2002), “Muse” (2021), “She Will” (2021), “My Policeman” (2022), and “The Chronicles of Narnia” series.

Everett also starred in many TV series like “Sherlock Holmes and the Case of the Silk Stocking”, “The Musketeers”, “The Serpent Queen”, “Funny Woman”, and many others.

As a singer, Everett is known for the albums “Generation of Loneliness” and “The Hairless Diva.”

Everett has been nominated for various awards throughout his career, including two BAFTA nominations and two Golden Globe Award nominations. In 1997, he won a Satellite Award, and in 2022, he won a TIFF Tribute Award for the movie “My Policeman.”
