Preity G Zinta was born Preetam Singh Zinta on 31 January 1975 into a Rajput family from Shimla, Himachal Pradesh. Her father, Durganand Zinta, was an officer in the Indian Army who passed away in a car accident when she was 13 years old.

Preity Zinta’s mother Nilprabha, was also involved in the accident and was severely injured and consequently remained bedridden for two years. She was raised alongside two brothers; Deepankar and Manish.
