He is best known for his tenure as the drummer and lead singer of the rock band Genesis and for his solo career which began in 1981.

Why did Phil Collins retire?

British musician Phil Collins says he can barely hold a drum stick because of deteriorating health that has also forced him to sit while singing during live performances.

Collins, who had a successful solo career in the 1980s and 1990s with hits like “In the Air Tonight” and “One More Night,” announced his retirement in 2011, but returned to the stage in 2017 for a “Not Yet Dead: Live” series of shows.

Following a five-year retirement to focus on his family life, Collins released an autobiography in 2016 and completed his Not Dead Yet Tour in 2019.

Is Phil Collins deaf?

In 2000, Phil Collins developed sudden deafness in one ear owing to a viral infection. Most professional musicians would have been horrified.

Collins, however, was perversely relieved. “In a way, I felt like I was a slave to the thing,” he says, meaning his career.
