Miranda Elish transferred out of Texas in August of 2021. She left Austin to return home for the holidays. She returned in May, but only to pack her belongings.

“I was going through a lot,” Elish explained. “It was just not a comfortable situation for me to be in, especially because I was battling with anxiety and depression.”
Her time abroad aided her in making a life-altering decision. “When I left Austin for winter break, I knew I wouldn’t be back until May 2021 to pack my belongings and go to Alabama,” Elish explained. “It was not an easy decision to give up the sport I had committed two decades of my life to.”

Despite her mental health issues, she felt enormous pressure to continue performing. “The idea of disappointing my parents, relatives, hometown, teammates, and coaches destroyed me,” Elish explained. “But I’d never suffered mentally as much as I did, and all I wanted was to feel like myself again.”
She opted out of the season in January 2021, with no plans to participate again. During her time off, she worked a couple of jobs, including teaching young, aspiring softball players.
