Why did Jonathan Taylor Thomas change his name?

Jonathan Taylor Thomas entered the world as Jonathan Taylor Weiss on September 8, 1981, in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania.  In the process of establishing himself in the competitive world of entertainment, Jonathan Taylor Thomas made a significant personal choice.

As part of a family reconfiguration after his parents’ separation, he decided to adopt his brother Joel’s middle name as his new last name. The shift from Weiss to Taylor represented not just a change in nomenclature but a symbolic step in his Hollywood journey.

Jonathan Taylor Thomas’s television career took off in 1990 when he played the role of Kevin Brady on The Bradys, a spin-off of the classic 1970s TV show The Brady Bunch. This early experience set the stage for his future success, and he soon became a household name for his portrayal of Randy Taylor on the hit sitcom Home Improvement.
