Jodie Foster did not quit acting. She took a break from acting to focus more on directing. In her own words to SheKnows: “I’ve been directing a lot, and I didn’t really want to come back to acting unless it was something that I absolutely loved,”

“I was looking for something that felt more like a transformation. For me, that would be more exciting, to do something that was more of a challenge than what people expect of me and just to have that kind of physical transformation to create a full character.”

Jodie Foster founded her own production company, Egg Pictures, in 1992. Jodie Foster made her directorial film debut with Little Man Tate (1991). 

In 2013, Foster received the honorary Cecil B. DeMille Award at the 70th Golden Globe Awards.

Jodie Foster has since directed films such as Home for the Holidays (1995), The Beaver (2011), and Money Monster (2016). Jodie Foster voiced a character in an episode of Frasier in 1996 and an episode of The X-Files in early 1997.
