Diana Ross left the group in 1970 because she and Berry Gordy felt she had outgrown them and was ready to start a solo career. She was replaced by Cindy Birdsong.

Diana Ross’s eponymous debut solo album featured the U.S. number-one hit “Ain’t No Mountain High Enough” and the music anthem “Reach Out and Touch (Somebody’s Hand)”.

Diana Ross is the only female artist to have had number-one singles on the Billboard Hot 100 as a solo artist, as the other half of a duet, as a member of a trio, and as an ensemble member.

In 2021, Billboard ranked Diana Ross the 30th greatest Hot 100 artist of all time. Since her solo career began in 1970, Diana has released 25 studio albums, numerous singles, and compilations that have sold more than 100 million records worldwide.
