Why did Christiane Amanpour leave CNN?

Christiane Amanpour is a British-Iranian journalist and television host. In 2010, Christiane Amanpour the then CNN’s chief international correspondent, left CNN after nearly 30 years to become the new anchor at ABC, a rival US television network.

Christiane’s decision to leave came just six months after she stepped back from her role as a foreign correspondent to launch her own interview show, called Amanpour, on CNN International.

However, On December 13, 2011, ABC announced that Amanpour would leave her position as anchor of ABC News’ This Week on January 8, 2012, to return to CNN International.

Amanpour is now the Chief International Anchor for CNN and host of CNN International’s nightly interview program Amanpour. She is also the host of Amanpour & Company on PBS.

She is known for her fearless reporting style, often parachuting into conflict areas, and her emotional reports.

After the 9/11 attacks, Amanpour was the first international correspondent to interview British Prime Minister Tony Blair.

From 1996 to 2005, Amanpour worked as a special contributor for “60 Minutes” creator Don Hewitt, filing five in-depth international reports that earned her a Peabody Award in 1998.
