Why did AXL change his name?

It wasn’t until after he moved to Los Angeles in 1982, that Ross adopted the name Axl. The name Axl is from one of his first bands called AXL.

Axl Rose legally changed his name to W. Axl Rose before to Guns N’ Roses signed their recording contract in 1986.

W. Axl Rose was born William Bruce Rose, Jr on February 6, 1962, in Lafayette, Indiana, the  United States. Axl Rose has been named one of the greatest singers of all time by Rolling Stone and NME.

Axl Rose performed with Elton John on April 20, 1992, at The Freddie Mercury Tribute Concert at Wembley Stadium singing Bohemian Rhapsody as a duet with Elton and also sang “We Will Rock You”.

In September 1991, Guns N’ Roses released Use Your Illusion I and Use Your Illusion II, which debuted at No. 2 and No. 1 respectively on the Billboard 200.

In November 1988, Guns N’ Roses released the stopgap album G N’ R Lies, which sold more than five million copies in the U.S. alone.
