The fourth season of “True Detective” is the first season to carry a subtitle. The first episode of the season aired on January 14, 2024, at 9:00 pm ET on HBO. The season features a six-episode run with an individual release date for each episode.

Issa López is a Mexican filmmaker who chose to create a “dark mirror” of the first season, where “True Detective is male and it’s sweaty, Night Country is cold and it’s dark and it’s female”.

López credited John Carpenter’s “The Thing,” Stanley Kubrick’s “The Overlook,” and Ridley Scott’s “Nostromo” as inspiration.
