May-a sings about not wanting to run back to a relationship without genuine communication. The lyrics convey a sense of certainty and self-assurance after ending a bad relationship. Flume wrote the song with fellow Aussie songwriter Sarah Aarons.

The music video, directed by Michael Hili, features surreal visuals, including exotic birds, silicon burger buns, and May-a being buried in black sand. “Say Nothing” topped the Triple J Hottest 100 of 2022, solidifying its popularity.
