Who won the Carla Esparza fight?

Carla Esparza won the fight against Rose Namajunas to claim the UFC’s strawweight belt on Saturday, May 7.

Esparza won in a split decision over Namajunas in the co-main event of UFC 274 at Footprint Center. Esparza won the fight on two judges’ scores of 49-46 and 48-47. Namajunas won 48-47, according to a third.

Namajunas only landed 38 strikes in the five-round fight, according to UFC Stats. Esparza scored 30 points.

Esparza becomes the division’s second two-time champion with the win. Esparza won five consecutive fights against Virna Jandriroba, Alexa Grasso, Michelle Waterson, Marina Rodriguez, and Yan Xiaonan to earn another shot at gold and achieve her goal.

Esparza said, “You never want to be a part of a fight like that.” “I went out there and gave it my all in the hopes of breaking through. What matters is that I came out on top.”

Namajunas’ loss was also the first of five rematches in which they failed.
