Israel Adesanya won a unanimous decision over Jared Cannonier to retain his middleweight title (49-46, 49-46, 50-45). It was one of the duller fights in the UFC championship.
After the fight, Adesanya was asked what his next step in his career would be, having already knocked out nearly every top contender at 185 pounds.

Adesanya called out Alex Pereira, the man who has two kickboxing victories over Adesanya, including a brutal knockout victory, and who had earlier on the main card knocked out Sean Strickland.

Cannonier lost because he was cautious in his approach and tried to find an opening to use his legendary power. However, Adesanya’s movement, jabs, and leg kicks kept Cannonier from getting many chances to land a hit.
As the rounds progressed, it became clear that Cannonier would have to win by knockout. He didn’t take enough risks and ended up on the losing end of the decision with scores of 50-45, 49-46, and 49-46.
