Who will be queen after Queen Elizabeth passes away?

Queen Elizabeth’s oldest son, Prince Charles will immediately become King upon her death, though a coronation traditionally held at Westminster Abbey will be planned later to officially crown the new king.

Charles was the heir apparent as well as Duke of Rothesay from 1952 to his accession in 2022 and was both the oldest and longest-serving heir apparent in British history. He is the longest serving Prince of Wales, having the title from July 1958 until his mother Elizabeth II, died on September 8, 2022.

As the Prince of Wales, Charles undertook official duties on behalf of the Queen. He founded The Prince Trust in 1976, sponsors The Prince’s Charities, and is a patron, president or a member of over 400 other charities and organisations.

Prince Charles ascended to the British throne on September 8, 2022, following the death of his mother Queen Elizabeth II.
