Shavers, at 6 feet tall and 210 pounds, wasn’t a big man for a heavyweight. But he was feared by all of his peers, who frequently praised his power.

His most famous victory came on March 23, 1979, when he knocked out Norton in the first round at the then-Las Vegas Hilton. He also defeated former heavyweight champion Jimmy Ellis and Jimmy Young.

Earnie Shavers passed away on September 1, 2022.  His cause of death has not been made known.
