Tito Horford was the first Dominican to play in the NBA. Alfredo William “Tito” Horford is a retired professional basketball player from the Dominican Republic who was drafted in the second round (39th overall) of the 1988 NBA draught by the Milwaukee Bucks.

Horford spent three seasons in the NBA, two with the Milwaukee Bucks (1988–1990) and one with the Washington Bullets (1993–94). In 1992, he performed in Spain. In the summer of 1992, he was listed on the Bucks’ roster.

Tito was born in La Romana, Dominican Republic, and attended Marian Christian High School in Houston which closed in 1989. Tito’s father came from the Bahamas. He moved to Lansing, Michigan, after retiring from basketball.
Al Horford, his son, attended the University of Florida and was a key member of the Gators’ national championship teams in 2006 and 2007. The Atlanta Hawks selected him third overall in the 2007 Draft, and he went on to be a five-time All-Star during his career.
