Who was Terry Holland?
As the head men’s basketball coach at Davidson College from 1969 to 1974 and at the University of Virginia from 1974 to 1990, Holland enjoyed a successful career in college basketball coaching.
He had a stellar 418-216 records during his coaching tenure, and his teams accomplished a number of important milestones. Holland served as the athletic director at Davidson, Virginia, and East Carolina before retiring as a coach.

In 1964, Holland graduated from Davidson College with a Bachelor of Arts in economics. Holland played basketball for three years while attending Davidson, where he was coached by the late Lefty Driesell.
During his senior year, 1963–1964, he captained the first-ever Wildcat basketball team to be ranked at the national level and led the country in field goal percentage (63.1%).
After earning his degree, he continued working at Davidson as an assistant coach before taking over as head coach in 1969. Three times, he received the Coach of the Year award from the Southern Conference.
