A Life of Struggles and Triumphs

Sticky Vicky, born Victoria María Aragüés Gadea, faced numerous health battles in her later years. Her daughter, Maria Gadea, took to Facebook to share the heartbreaking news of her mother’s passing: “I regret these words, my mother Sticky Vicky passed away today at 6 in the morning, I can’t believe it. She has gone, surrounded by her family, with all of our love. I thank God for always being able to be by her side. I am left with a broken heart.”

The Journey to Stardom

Vicky’s journey to stardom was as unconventional as her performances. Born in Santa Cruz de Tenerife on April 15, 1943, she moved to Barcelona with her mother after her father left the family. Trained as a ballet dancer for 15 years, Vicky later worked as a dancer and managed El Molino, a theater on the Avinguda del Paral·lel in Barcelona.

After experiencing challenges in the wake of eased sexual censorship, Vicky was urged by a magician friend to perform a unique magic act—pulling unusual objects from her vagina. This act, initially met with skepticism, became a sensational success. She took her show to Barcelona cabarets, northern Spain, and various international variety theaters.

The Benidorm Chapter

In the early 1980s, following her sister’s advice, Vicky relocated to Benidorm on the Mediterranean coast. Despite initial plans to take a break, she found success with her show at a local hotel. What followed was three decades of nightly performances that turned her into a living legend.

Legacy and Controversies

Sticky Vicky’s shows were marked by the unexpected—objects ranging from ping pong balls to razor blades were part of her repertoire. Her performances weren’t categorized as pornographic; she emphasized the delicacy and elegance required for her act. Over the years, she became a beloved figure among British tourists, earning her a place as a supporting character in the TV sitcom Benidorm.

However, her career wasn’t without controversies. In 2001, she engaged in a legal battle over the use of her stage name, Sticky Vicky, with another performer. Despite legal challenges, Vicky’s impact was undeniable, with over six million people witnessing her act.

The Final Bow

Sticky Vicky performed her last show in the autumn of 2015, just before a hip operation. In February 2016, she announced her retirement at the age of 72 after being diagnosed with uterine cancer. In her own words, “I want to enjoy life now. I’ve been working since I was 11, and it’s time for a rest.”

Her daughter, Maria, who had watched her mother’s performances since the age of 14, decided to carry on the legacy. Despite facing challenges and gossip from peers, Maria proudly stepped into the world of X-rated entertainment, ensuring that Sticky Vicky’s unique form of artistry lives on.

The End of an Era

Sticky Vicky’s passing leaves a void in Benidorm’s entertainment scene. Fans from around the world have flooded social media with tributes, expressing gratitude for the entertainer who put Benidorm on the map. As the Costa Blanca resort mourns the loss of its legendary figure, Sticky Vicky’s legacy lives on in the hearts of those who were captivated by her audacious performances.
