Who Was Spencer Hudson? Tributes pour in as Bourbon Street mourns bartender killed by stray bullet

A Bourbon Street bartender died early Sunday, March 20, 2022 after a stray bullet hit him in the chest,

The Street bartender’s death was confirmed by New Orleans police.

Spencer Hudson, 46, was tending bar at the Cat’s Meow karaoke bar just after 2 a.m. Sunday when the bullet flew in from the street and hit him in the chest.

Spencer Hudson died at the scene.

A long time friend of Spencer Hudson described him as one who just loved working;

“This man was just working,” a longtime friend and former bartender said. “He was just working. He was doing a job, and something like his happened,” the friend said.

Other friends also believed that Spencer Hudson was planning a trip to Japan, where he hoped to teach English to students.

“Talk about a renaissance man,” the friend added. “He was just a very special person who definitely didn’t deserve what happened to him.”

Police took in the suspected shooter, 24-year-old Daphney Jackson, at the scene. She was booked for manslaughter, obstruction of justice and illegal use of weapons.
