Who was Roderick Pooh Clark?

Roderick was a founding member of the group Hi-Five. Hi-Five is a Waco, Texas-based American R&B quintet. Hi-“I Five’s Like the Way (The Kissing Game)” reached number one on the Billboard Hot 100 in 1991.

The band was created in 1989 by Tony Thompson, Roderick “Pooh” Clark, Marcus Sanders, Russell Neal, and Toriano Easley, all of whom were born in Waco, Texas. Hi-Five was signed to Jive Records in late 1989, and their self-titled debut album was released in 1990.

Teddy Riley produced the platinum-selling album, which featured singles such as “I Just Can’t Handle It” (R&B #10), “I Can’t-Wait Another Minute” (Pop #8, R&B #1), and their biggest hit to date, “I Like the Way (The Kissing Game),” which reached number one on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 and the U.S. Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart.

Shortly after the group released an album in 1992, they were involved in a vehicular accident, which left Roderick “Pooh” Clark paralyzed from the chest down.

Roderick developed an infection that spread through his body over the years after the accident. He was confined to a wheelchair after the incident. He passed away in April 2022.
