Who was Renate Krößner‘s role in ‘Solo Sunny’?

German actress, Renate Krößner played the lead role, Sunny, in the popular 1980 movie Solo Sunny.  In the film, she played the role of a factory worker who dreams of artistic freedom as a singer, touring with a mediocre band, in conflict with social conventions of the period.

She won an award for the Silver Bear for Best Actress at the 30th Berlin International Film Festival. It was the first Berlinale Award for an East German production. her character’s attitude and fashion sense in the film was a large contributor and influencer to the German youth at the time.

Born on May 17, 1945, Renate Krößner started her career in the mid-60s when she appeared in her first film dubbed Tiefe Furchen in 1965. Her breakthrough internationally was in the movie Bis daß de Tod euch scheidet which was released in 1979. She played the role of a woman’s best friend in a film about violence in a young marriage.
