Popular film editor, John Wright has died after a prolonged battle with prostate and bone cancer. He was 79 years old when he died. He died in his home in Calabasas on April 20, 2023.

He received an Oscar nomination for Speed by Jan de Bont, and The Hunt for Red October, one of the movies he edited for John McTiernan.

Wright was also nominated for the 1989 Emmy Award for Best Editing for the movie, My Name Is Bill W. Some of his popular movies include Convoy (1978), The Running Man (1987), Necessary Roughness (1991), Broken Arrow (1996), X-Men (2000), Glory Road, and Marvel’s The Incredible Hulk (2008).

He began his career as an editor at KABC-TV right after graduating from Van Nuys High School. He also worked on National Geographic and Jacques Cousteau specials during the early stages of his career.
Wright worked as an editor on Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory (1971) and The Bad News Bears (1976) during the initial stages of his career. Acapulco Gold and Dogs was his first feature film as a major film editor.
