Who was Ginny Newhart? Television Director and Wife of Bob Newhart Dies at 82

Television director, Ginny Newhart who is known by many as the wife of American comedian, Bob Newhart has been reported dead at the age of 82.

According to sources, she died after a prolonged illness on Sunday, April 23, 2023. She was a television director who was known for the series Tattletales.

She once shared that the first time he met Bob officially, they played pool at Hackett’s home.

“It was just silly. I was 20, 21, 21, and I think Bob was 32. And every time somebody would sink a ball in the pocket or whatever you’re supposed to do, we’d run around the table our cue stick singing ‘Bridge on the River Kwai,” she said.

“We didn’t see each other for a while. And then I was working as an extra on a Jerry Lewis movie that I couldn’t tell you the name of, but it was at Paramount. And Bob was doing Hell is for Heroes in 1962. He came to visit me on the set and I wasn’t there. So I went over to his set. he wasn’t there. And we sort of lost touch because he was traveling a lot,” she added.

She was set up with Bob Newhart by comedian Bubby Hackett on a blind date when she was babysitting Hackett’s kids.

“Bubby came back one day and said his own inimitable way, ‘I met this young guy and his name is Bobby Newhart, and he’s a comic and he’s Catholic and you’re Catholic and I think maybe you should marry each other,” she said in an interview in 2013.
