Felipe Colares, a 29-year-old UFC veteran, died after being hit by a bus in Rio de Janeiro on Monday (May, 1).

Colares’ coach, Rodrigo Babi, told Brazilian news site Combate that Colares was returning home from training when he was hit in Rio’s Guaratiba district.

According to the report, Colares was treated by first responders but died en route to neighboring Hospital Rocha Faria in Campo.

Colares began training in judo at the age of seven and added Brazilian jiu-jitsu, taekwondo, and Muay Thai at the age of 15.

Before signing with the UFC in January 2019, Colares had an unbeaten MMA record of 8-0 fighting on the Brazilian regional MMA circuit, culminating in his victory of the Jungle Fight featherweight belt.

On February 2, 2019, he made his UFC debut as a lightweight against Geraldo de Freitas at UFC Fight Night: Assunço vs. Moraes 2.

Colares is survived his wife Jaqueline and their infant son, Rhavi.
