Bob Potter, OBE, best known as the owner of ‘home of darts’, the Lakeside Country Club in Frimley Green, Surrey, has passed away, aged 94.

Potter’s demise was announced ‘with great sadness’ on Friday, April 14 by the World Darts Federation (WDF) which confirmed in its obituary that ‘his legacy at the venue’ will be continued over the next three years with the next edition of their World Championship to be held in December.
Posting on their website, a spokesperson said:

“Bob was an ardent supporter of darts, with his iconic Lakeside Country Club playing host to the Darts World Championships from 1986 to 2019.

“Lakeside also served as the lead sponsor from 2004 to 2019 and once again in 2022, when he welcomed us back with open arms.
“We look forward to continuing his legacy at the venue over at least the next three years.
“At this sad time, the thoughts of the WDF family are with Bob’s loved ones and we express our sincere condolences to his family and friends.”
Potter’s hotel played host to the BDO (and then WDF) World Darts Championship from 1986 to 2019 and then again in 2022.
He also served as the lead sponsor of the championship from 2004 to 2019 with the World Darts Federation saying in a statement he was an “ardent supporter of darts.”
