Who was Blackie Onassis? Former Urge Overkill Drummer Reported Dead

Blackie Onassis was a former drummer and singer of the Chicago-based alt-rock trio Urge Overkill. He joined the Urge Overkill music group in the early ’90s and played with the group as they opened for Nirvana’s Nevermind tour in 1991.

The band was made up of singer and guitarist, Nash Kato and Eddie King Roeser, while Onassis drummed and sang as well. In 2000, Kato released a solo disc that featured almost half of its songs co-opened with Onassis, while the band took a break. Roeser also returned to the band in 2005 and went on tour with the band, however, Onassis was omitted.

Before breaking up, the band performed very well during their peak. In the ’90s, they opened for Nirvana’s Nevermind tour in 1991. After their phenomenal performance, the band was signed by Geffen Records.

Onassis played an integral part in the group’s ’90s albums; The Supersonic (1991), Saturation (1993), and Exit the Dragon (1995). Two of these albums debuted on the Billboard 200, while Sister Havana off the Saturation album reached the Top 10 of the Modern Rock and Mainstream Rock tallies.

He was reported dead by the Urge Overkill social media page, however, the cause of death, age, and actual death date were not reported.
